A Very Special Day!
After months of planning, 50 lucky environmental science students from Ms. Maben's class got to board a boat and explore Grissom Island, one of 4 THUMS oil islands producing about 20,000 barrels of crude oil a day. We had an informative time touring the oil production facility and also learned safety and environmental impact issues concerning drilling. One of the key events of the day was to install a native plant garden in two sites on the island. The students did a magnificent job of proper planting and left their mark for all time, enhancing the islands to attract more native wildlife.
