The mission of our department is to promote academic and real world success by empowering students with critical thinking and application skills through learning mathematics. The acquisition, practice, and process of learning mathematics exercises and challenges students to perform higher level thinking that will transfer towards future success. Our goal as a department (consisting of highly qualified instructors) is to produce critical thinkers and life long learners through standards based instruction. Our department is driven by rigor, relevance, and relationship. Our goal is to provide the most quality appropriate mathematics education without compromising rigor. All instruction attempts to tie in relevance and real world application that students can relate to. We train all department members through various professional developments to continuously improve and make strides toward superior instruction. Such trainings include: PowerPoint instruction, motivational learning strategies, differentiation learning, and test taking skills to help students achieve greater success on standardized tests (CST and CAHSEE). This creates and promotes an environment and relationship conducive to learning. We are the math department and this is our pledge to you.
